Why does the black community think that a word born of hate can ever be okay to use?

The n-word has never beena positive word. Why do some people believe it is okay to use amonst themselves? I find it highly offensive, not empowering. Why can't we all, white and black, let that word die? The black community should be outraged when that word is used, even if it's used by someone of the same colour.
