Was the whole 'Christian persecution in Rome' an exaggeration?

There are plenty of examples of Christian persecution during the Roman Empire. There were many emperors who viewed christianity as a threat to their rule, as they were viewed as living gods. This ended with Constantine's edict declaring Christianity the official state religion of the Empire. Go to your nearest college bookstore and find some texts on Roman and early European history.
