Is it normal for a plastic surgeon to say this?

Well, a few days ago I was going into have a consultation for my lip reduction surgery. First, when he walked in he is like, some people pay to have lips look like yours. They aren't even that big! Keep in mind, my lips are huge. Way bigger than the average white persons' and a little bigger than a person with African descent. Well, he goes on to tell me that everyone has something on their body they don't like. When I become older, I'll appreciate more about my body than right now. Then he went on to explain flaws about himself. He began telling me that I was pretty and that altering my lips to make them smaller might have more bad effects than positive ones. So here I am. Without any lip reduction. Is this contradicting for a plastic surgeon to say???
